Market Performance

China is the world’s fastest growing outbound travel market and the largest contributor to the global tourism industry with a global spend of over $120 billion in 2018. That same year the island of Ireland welcomed 100,000 Chinese travellers, a figure Tourism Ireland aims to double by 2025.

Hainan Airlines offers two direct flights per week from Beijing to the island of Ireland (starting April 2020)
Numerous one stop flights to Dublin and Belfast from many one and two-tier Chinese cities are offered by a host of international air carriers.

Why should you target this market?

Tourism Ireland has continued to work hard to promote the island of Ireland in China. On the back of last year's increase of +11% in Chinese visitors to Ireland, Tourism Ireland is ramping up its investment in China to €1 million. In 2019, Tourism Ireland hosted its largest ever China Sales Mission with a record of 26 tourism businesses, visiting Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shanghai and Beijing meeting hundreds of travel agents and tour operators, as well as key airlines and travel journalists.

We hope to continue to work with island of Ireland industry in 2020 to promote business and grow holiday bookings from this vital market.
